It’s not a new subject when it comes to reading or watching love stories. We are used to expect very cliché storyline and plots when it comes to love stories where at the end of the day two lovers end up together after competing and getting over all the hurdles on their love life. Only thing that changes is the characters and some unique situation is added in every love story which usually gets tackled with the “power of love” at the end. That predictability is what makes me hate love stories and there are only few movies that I can remember which restored my faith in giving a try watching love stories despite hating most of them. So, I’ll be sharing 3 movies revolving around love and relationship which stood out for me. I have chosen 3 movies with very different scenario for this purpose. Not every single one of these movie falls under romantic genre but each of them depicts some aspect of relationships. I’ll try not to throw any spoiler but I can’t guarantee I won’t.
First one is Raanjhanaa. What seemed to be typical Indian Lover boy story at the beginning really blew me away with its originality, dialogues and acting. I felt like the entire cast of the movie were born just to play their roles in the movie. Movie portrays a boy from vanras, India which I could relate with the Janakpurdham area of Nepal as I’ve spent some part of my childhood there and the people and the characters are really relatable. Movies unfolds the series of twist and turns when the very extrovert and Confident lead character Kundan gives his everything to get his one-sided childhood love. Sadly, his Obsession does not end up being a good choice but his passion does not let him loose as his love wins at the end (with some irreparable cost though ) no matter what the consequence is. The movies is filled with awesome and original dialogues and my favourite one was :
Tumhe kya lagta hai Zoya, tum bohot hoor ki pari ho, Tumse pyaar karna mera talent hai Zoya, Isme tumhara koi haath nahi.
Tumhare jagah koi bhi hoti to main usse bhi itna hi toot ke pyaar karta
And the monolgue at the end “ ye jo ladki murda is aakhe liye baithi hey bagal mein aaj bhi haan bolde toh mahadev ki kasam……………. “
Second one is Silver Lining Playbook. This one too seems to be a typical love story at the beginning but it’s a weirdly awesome love story where the lead character Bradley cooper trying to get his marriage back in track, on guarantee of his mom gets released from mental institution as he got himself there by beating up illicit boyfriend of his wife after finding them in compromising position. Despite the Divorce being a mere formality, he does not want to let go once “love of his life” and desperately tries to get back with her despite legal restrictions. The fun starts in movie when he meets another absurd and mentally disturbed character played by Jennifer Lawrence ( which she got Oscar for). Akward conversations and unexpected behavior shown by both the characters is a treat to watch as movies unfolds series of akward situations one over another. I wont spoil if the lead character manages to get back with his wife or not. This movie is awesome because it’s extremely akward but beautiful at the same time.
The Best Dialogue in Silver lining playbook is :
When life reaches out at a moment like this it’s a sin if you don’t reach back, I’m telling you its a sin if you don’t reach back! It’ll haunt you the rest of your days like a curse
And the monologue at the end : The world will break your heart ten ways to Sunday. That’s guaranteed. I can’t ……………
“Happily Ever After” the most typical ending in love stories , it’s this point at which the third movie Gone Girl has its plot started. Though it’s not a romantic genre of a movie, this thriller drama unfolds when perfectly happy life of Amy and Nick (Rosamund Pike and Ben Afflek) gets a lot of media attention as Amy who is famous for her childhood character “Amazing Amy “disappears out of thin air mysteriously on the day of their 5th marriage anniversary and the series of secrets about seemingly “perfect couple” surfaces in the media. The entire movie is a series of roller coaster that will make you stunned right till the end. Whole movie is shot very artistically and every small detail has its meaning. Eye off the screen and you may miss important plot which this movie is full of. At the end the movie tries to depict how people perceive things and how we portray ourselves in relationship as everything is a perception and everyone is a construction. It made me feel very uncomfortable about the love and marriage at the end.
Favourite dialogue in gone girl for me is : “The cool girl …………..” monologue
